ISSTT 2022 - Regular abstract submission deadline extended to June 10

Dear colleagues,

Due to several requests from the community, the Local Organizing Committee has decided to extend the deadline one last time, until June 10, 2022. There will be no further extensions after that date. Following the June 10th deadline, only poster submissions will be considered. Students can continue to submit student abstracts, and they might still opt to student travel grants if additional grants become available (e.g. free lodging and waived or reduced registration fees). However, to maintain the fairness of the Student Competition, new student submissions WILL NO LONGER be considered for the Best Student Paper Award. We are expecting though to be able to offer free lodging to more than 35 students. Other updates:

  • Registration fees are also announced below.

  • Confirmed plenary speakers are also announced in the web, including Nobel Prize laureate Dr. John Mather.

  • Most of the social program can be also found in the web. Details of the flamenco performance by Grammy Award Winner "Arcangel" will be also announced very soon".

Submissions for the ISSTT 2022 meeting will be in the form of one-page abstracts (regular submissions) or 2-page abstracts (best student paper competition submissions), which should be uploaded as pdf file on the Symposium website using the following link: More information on the Best Student Competition can be found below in this e-mail. However, we would like to highlight two very important aspects of this competition. We would really appreciate if all professors could communicate this information to their students:

  • The 10 finalists of the Best Student Paper Competition (to be announced by mid June) will receive a travel grant consisting of waived registration fee, free lodging for the conference days provided by the International University of Andalusia, and free access to all social activities/visits.

  • In addition to the 10 finalists, we will also provide up to 15 additional student travel grants, with the same characteristics described above, in a first come first served basis (defined by the abstract submission date). These will for those students that have submitted an abstract to the best paper competition, but haven't been selected as finalists. Therefore, the sooner you submit your abstract the more chances to earn a travel grant through this path. Please don't wait until the deadline! Additional free lodging travel grants might also become available.

Please download the abstract template from this page and prepare your abstract following the instructions in the template. The filename format should be as following: “LastName_isstt2022abstract_#.pdf”, where # is either ”1”, or ”2”, depending on how many abstracts you are going to submit. Please indicate topic and your preference for an oral or poster presentation. The 32nd IEEE International Symposium on Space Terahertz Technology (ISSTT 2022) will be held in Baeza, Andalusia Spain from October 16 to October 20th, 2022. VDi - ISSTT 2022 Best Student Paper Competition:

The ISSTT 2022 Student Paper Competition, sponsored by Virginia Diodes, is held to identify and recognize outstanding technical contributions from individual students. In general, it is preferred that the submitted paper have only few authors. The first author must be the student; the last author must be the student's main advisor. Additional student co-authors are acceptable, but will also be subject to verification by the main advisor as detailed below. Up to 10 contributions will be selected as finalists and will have the opportunity to do a ~5-10 min oral presentation during the conference. The finalists will also receive a travel grant, which will include waived registration fee, lodging support during the days of the conference and access to all conference social activities at no extra charge. Those student papers not selected as finalists, but meeting the quality standards of the conference, will be automatically transferred to the poster presentation session.

First, second, and third prizes will be awarded based on content and presentation where the criteria are ranked in the following order:

  1. Creativity or novelty of the ideas presented in the paper

  2. Paper quality and technical soundness of the presented work

  3. Oral presentation of the paper at the conference and response to audience questions.

To be considered for an award, the student must (i) be the lead author, (ii) personally present the paper at ISSTT 2022, and (iii) the advisor must confirm that the paper is mostly the students work (>80%). During the paper submission process, the student is required to provide the name and email address of the main faculty advisor who will be asked, upon the selection of the paper as finalists, to certify that the work is at least 80% that of the student.

The ISSTT 2022 Venue - Baeza, Spain:

This will be the first time this conference will take place in Spain, which has been made possible by the strong support of the Tourism Office of Spain in Los Angeles and the Baeza City Hall. Baeza is an Andalusian walled town in the province of Jaen, in southern Spain. It lies perched on a cliff in the Loma de Ubeda, the range separating the Guadalquivir River to its south from the Guadalimar to its north. It is now principally famed for having some of the best-preserved examples of Italian Renaissance architecture in Spain. Located near the historic city of Granada, Baeza is one of the 15 UNESCO World Heritage sites in Spain and is full of Renaissance buildings and cobbled streets that you will be surprised to see in the south of Spain.
